Outdoor Activities in Perth

Feb 10 , 2012

Perth outdoor activities are adventurous, but also tranquil and beautiful. Whether you’re an experienced adventurist or just a beginner, it doesn’t matter. Looking for beautiful nature and wildlife? Perth has everything! From famous rocks that are shaped like waves to mini kangaroos.

Armadale Rock Climbing

Take adventure to the next level, literally! Climb rocks east of Perth to test your fitness skills. If you’re an experienced climber this area is a must visit, with beautiful red sandstone places. But even if you’re just a beginner, you definitely have to check this out! Ask at your hotel for any packages available. They often offer starting courses. Challenge yourself finding your own route to the top with this Perth outdoor activity!

Kite Surfing

Take on the craziest and most adventurous sea sport in the area. Kite-surfing is a real sport and a crazy challenge for everyone who likes the adrenaline. Take a 2 or 3 day course in Shoalwater Bay, see how safe it is and then ride the water like only a kite-surfer can do!

Wave Rock

Visit Hippo’s Yawn and Wave Rock just outside of Perth! This rock looks like a giant wave on which you could surf. Naturally carved out of granite, it looks like it could fall on you any minute. Nature works in mysterious ways. A flight tour of this area is also an option - just ask your hotel about this Perth outdoor activity for pricing and more information.

Perth Zoo

Over 1800 animals live in this zoo which opened in 1898. Back then it had only two lions and a tiger! As the zoo grew, so did it’s animal kingdom. Besides a wide array of exotic animals, the zoo is also home to many of Australia’s native habitats. Make sure you check out the spectacular reptiles, this zoo is famous for them.

Horse Riding

Ride the Great Australian Bush the way the early colonials did it; by horse! No matter your age or your experience, you can enjoy freedom and relaxation with this wonderful outdoor activity. A bonus comes if you can spot kangaroos in their native habitat! Some packages include a picnic for two afterwards.

Rottnest Island

A tropical island located in Perth’s locked lakes. Here you can find peace and tranquility on the secluded beaches after learning about this island’s rich colonial history. The island and its surroundings are rich in marine life, but also in wildlife. Try and spot the Quokka! It’s very small, and bares a slight resemblance to the kangaroo, it’s a real mini kangaroo! Take the Barrack Street Jetty from Perth to explore this wonderful island.

Murray River

Kayak, raft, or canoe yourself (with a guide) over this river to beautiful places. Find tranquil forests, calm river pools, and the occasional excitement from a water rapid! The water rapids are considered class four, so make sure you have a guide with you. The area is also home to the Seal and Penguin Islands near Shoalwater Marine Park. Here you can snorkel and watch penguins at the Penguin Center.

After a big day on the water, quench your thirst at one of Perth's best bars.
